Richard G. Claggett, 30, son of Mrs. Beatrice Claggett, Dickerson, has informed his mother by card that he is a prisoner of the Germans. The card, written January 10, was just received Thursday by his mother. Pfc. Claggett was with the Medical Corps. Prior to induction, he worked on the farm of William Jones, Dickerson. A younger brother, Pfc. Roscoe F. Claggett, is also with the Medical Corps in Germany. Marriage Announcement The Frederick Post - April 14, 1953 The marriage of Miss Mae Flood to Richard Claggett, the son of Mrs. Beatrice Claggett, took place at the Clarksburg Methodist church at 7 p. m. on Saturday. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Jack G. Amnyin. Among those attending the ceremony were the families, relatives and friends. Those present were Mrs. Beatrice Claggett, Pvt. William R. Claggett, Elwood and Betty Claggett, Norman E. Claggett, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Staley and their children, Hunter, Donald and Earle, A. B. Smith, Shirley Martin, Violet Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Whipp and daughter, Kathleen, Charles G. Holbrook, Mrs. Charles Rutter and Mr. and Mrs. George Meerdink and Phyllis Staley. A reception was held at the home of the groom's sister, Mrs. William Seymour, of Poolesville. Besides her husband and children, David, Mary and Carolyn, many of the relatives and friends attended. Obituary The Frederick Post - September 26, 1985 Mr. Richard Grafton Claggett, Jr., 69, of Blandford St, RockvDle, died Wednesday, Sept 25, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Kockville. He was the husband of Minnie Mae Claggett. Born Jan. 17, 1916, in Mount Airy, Mr. Claggett was a son of Olive Beatrice Clary Claggett, Mount Airy, and the late Richard G. Claggett. Mr. Claggett was a veteran of World war II, during which he served with the 393rd Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army. He had been a POW in Germany. He was retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education where he was employed as a building services engineer for 31 years. Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Claggett is survived by two sisters, Nellie Staley and Myrl Selby, both of Boyds; six brothers, Eugene Claggett of Lisbon, Ellwood Ciaggett of Beallsville, Aubrey Claggett of Clarksburg, Roscoe Claggett of Gaithersburg, Norman Claggett of Chicago, DL, and Rudell Claggett, Edgewater; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Claggett was predeceased by two infant daughters. Friends may call from 6-9 p m Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m Friday, Sept 27, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mr. Claggett's name may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Drive Gaithersburg, Md. 20877.
