Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with the Rev. John P. Ptacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Epworth. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. He was born on March 26, 1941, in Potosi, Wis., son of Edward and Katherine (Schneller) Maahs. He received his education at St. Columbkille's and Washington Jr. High, and was a graduate of Senior High School, Dubuque. He married Martha L. "Mootie" Featherston on June 30, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade; she preceded him in death on July 2, 2000. Dick was employed at Hilldale Dairy and then at Riverside Tractor Trailer in Dubuque. He later owned and operated Maahs' Service Station in Farley and Epworth until his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Epworth. Dick also was an inducted member of the Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1996. Dick enjoyed spending his free time watching his grandchildren's ball games, and in the winter, he enjoyed plowing snow with his truck. Never was it known for Dick to pass up a good card game. He was recently blessed with his first great-grandchild and was very proud to be one of the five generations. Surviving are his daughter, Niki (Steve) Perrenoud, of Farley; three sons, Tony (Kim) Maahs, and Bruce "Wattuse" (Lori) Maahs, both of Epworth, and Mike (Susie) Maahs, of Dyersville; 10 grandchildren, Bill, Amanda and Eric Maahs, Cole and Casey Perrenoud, Megan, McKenzie, and Madison Maahs, Ashley (Seth) Ferrie and Mitchell Maahs.; a great-grandchild, Aubrie Ferrie; his mother, Kathrine "Kay" Maahs, of Dubuque; and two sisters, Karen Harmon and Debra Steichen, both of Machesney Park, Ill. He also was preceded in death by his father, Edward Maahs in 1994.
