Description	:	Richard H. “Dick” Puder, 89, of 428 W. Fourth St., died at 6:25 a.m. April 9, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. He was born November 26, 1925, in Highland Center. He married Marcene Harl on December 21, 1968. A graduate of Hedrick High School, Dick served with the U.S. Navy. He worked as a quality control engineer at the Alco plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Greenly in Chicago, Illinois. He married Marcene Harl on December 21, 1968. A graduate of Hedrick High School, Dick served with the U.S. Navy. He worked as a quality control engineer at the Alco plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Greenly in Chicago, Illinois. Moving back to Ottumwa, he and his wife owned and operated the Sylvania club from 1970 to 1972. They then became country club managers for 21 years in many different locations. They were Motel 6 managers for seven years throughout Texas and the southwest United States. In 1990, they retired and returned to Ottumwa. Dick had been a member and Post Commander of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, Marcene; two stepchildren, Kaylinn Flynn and Terry Welsh. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Hazel and Andy Walz. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy, and no services are planned.
