Spomer was born November 17, 1927 to William and Emma (Hienz) Spomer at Hurley. He graduated from Hurley High School. Richard married Erma Christensen August 13, 1950 after meeting her at the roller rink. Richard was on active duty for the US Army during the Koren conflict from January 1951 to October 1952, then he went on inactive duty with the Army Reserve for four years. Upon his return to the states he worked for the Scandanavian Co-op Creamery until the co-op closed. Richard was then employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement. Erma passed away on February 4, 1979. Richard married Delores Christensen February 14, 1981. Delores passed away September 8, 2006. Richard involved himself with his community by being on the volunteer fire department, city council, church council and was President of the school board. He enjoyed playing all kinds of cards epsecially Pinochle, Hearts and Canasta. He played fast pitch softball and enjoyed watching sports activities. Richard also enjoyed music, singing, bowling and playing bingo but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, both wives Erma and Delores; 2 brothers Paul and Donald; and 1 step-son Jim Christensen. Richard is survived by 3 sons Duane (Susan) of Kearneysville, WV, Dennis of Seattle, WA and Jeff (Val) of Zeeland, MI; 1 step-son Charles Christensen of Waverly, NE; 2 step-daughters Marlys (Jeff) Jones of Lincoln, NE and Marlene (Rodney) Beaudette of Yankton; 5 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild on the way; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 1 sister Edith Donavon of Denver, CO; 1 brother Harvey of Denver and many other relatives and friends.
