Dick was born to Henry and Esther Brodersen on May 1, 1925, on their family farm in Jones County, Iowa, near Wyoming, where he grew up. After graduation from Wyoming High School, he served his country during World War II in both the Army and the Air Force. After serving his country, he received his college education at the University of Iowa. It was at U of I that he met his wife, Margaret Schreck. During their time at Iowa, Dick and Margaret would spend their summers in California. In fact, it was one such summer break that Dick worked as the head waiter for the Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood reporting directly to Ronald Reagan. Dick married Margaret on July 2, 1954, and settled in Davenport. He, along with his brother, Bob, started the Brodersen & Brodersen Insurance Agency selling Franklin Life Insurance. Dick continued the business after the passing of his brother Bob in 1968 and worked in the field as a Regional Manager. In addition to his work as an Insurance Agent, Dick has also worked as a financial planner and entrepreneur. He owned major shares of several businesses, including a Chicago-based excursion boat and a southern California aerospace company. Dick recently returned to his roots by investing in farmland in Dubuque County. He never really retired and had been visiting clients on the day he passed away. Dick loved his work and many of his clients became lifelong friends. Dick had many outside interests. He had a lifelong love of horses and continued to ride his current horse, a Tennessee Walker on trail rides. Dick also loved to travel and had made many trips to South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. He also enjoyed genealogy and had made several trips to Germany and England to research family history. Survivors include his sons, Tom (Linda) Brodersen of Davenport and Dan (Tammy) Brodersen of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Michael and Amber of Bettendorf; special nephew, Randy (Marian) Brodersen and their children Chad, Stephanie and Vincent, along with several other nieces and nephews. Dick is also survived by a very special friend, Beverly Speer. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and son, David. March 29, 2011 Quad City Times
