Born July 24, 1914, he was the son of the late Horace P. Whitworth Sr. and Nancy (Dixon) Whitworth. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie G. Whitworth and a brother, Horace P. Whitworth Jr. Mr. Whitworth was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Westernport and served for a number of years as treasurer and was a vestryman. Whitworth Sr., 89, of 108 Howard Street, Westernport, Md., died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Moran Manor Nursing Home in Westernport. Born July 24, 1914, he was the son of the late Horace P. Whitworth Sr. and Nancy (Dixon) Whitworth. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie G. Whitworth and a brother, Horace P. Whitworth Jr. Mr. Whitworth was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Westernport and served for a number of years as treasurer and was a vestryman. He was a graduate of Bruce High School, Potomac State College, and Catherman Business School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion in Westernport. He worked at one time as an accountant for the Vanderbilt Racing Stables. He retired in 1976 from the Citizens Office of First United Bank in Westernport as vice president and served on the Board of Directors at the bank. Mr. Whitworth liked to play pool, ride his motorcycle and go fishing. He is survived by one son, Dr. Richard H. Whitworth Jr. and wife, Joyce, of New Orleans; one daughter, Mary Susan Clements and husband, James, of Baltimore; two brothers, Dr. Frank Dixon Whitworth of Front Royal, Va., and David G. Whitworth of Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Margaret Gannon of Cherry Hill, Colo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. James Episcopal Church in Westernport at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Manning Smith, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery. The family requests that memorial be directed to Tri-Towns Rescue Squad in Westernport.
