Description	:	Richard Harold Thomas, 55, of Beacon died May 24, 1985, at Mahaska County Hospital. He was born April 30,1930, in Big Spring, Texas, to Harold and Effie Hols Thomas. He married Helen Joyce Chapman an Dec. 31, 1949, in Lancaster, Mo. His family moved to Beacon in 1931. He attended school there and later worked hauling coal and at Iowa Valve. In 1949, he started Dick Thomas Sanitation Company. Hs retired Oct. 1, 1984. His business is now operated by his son. Richard Jr. of Beacon; a daughter, Bettie Kapple of Beacon; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Maxine Brown of Des Moines, Mary Lou Evans and Jo Ann Miller both of Beacon and Sadie Hugen of Oskaloosa; and four brothers, Jerry and Frank of Beacon Tom of Delta and David of Wright and a sister-in-law Shirley Glassford of Eddyville. The service was at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Garland-Van Arkel Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Max Johnson of the Assembly of God Church officiating.
