Description	:	Richard J. King, age 81, of Brookings, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, South Dakota. Richard James King was born September 13, 1924, at the King homestead in Argo Township, near Toronto, South Dakota, to Jesse and Rose (Parker) King. He attended school at Argo District No. 24, and graduated from White High School. Richard James King was born September 13, 1924, at the King homestead in Argo Township, near Toronto, South Dakota, to Jesse and Rose (Parker) King. He attended school at Argo District No. 24, and graduated from White High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and then started farming with his father and brother, Robert. On March 15, 1947, he married Phyllis Halstead at Brookings. After their marriage, Richard and Phyllis resided on the King homestead. In July of 1948, they moved to a farm seven miles north and four and one-half miles west of White in Argo Township. They moved into Brookings June 14, 2002. Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings, Higgins-Jessen American Legion Post No. 88 of White, Washington Lodge No. 111 A.F.&A.M. of White, Brookings York Rite bodies, El Riad Shrine in Sioux Falls, and White Star Chapter No. 16 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis King, of Brookings; three children: Linda (Larry) Lambertus of Hendricks, Minnesota, Konnie (Robert) Lambertus of Stroud, Oklahoma, and Royal (Cindy) King of Mitchell, South Dakota; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Cathryn) King of Toronto, South Dakota; and three sisters: Eunice Prehn of Clear Lake, South Dakota, Beth (Lloyd) Smith of Madison, South Dakota, and Marlys (Donald) Duff of Billings, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Avis and Mary. Interment and military graveside rites at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
