Read More	Reprinted with permission of Lauber-Moore Funeral Home: Richard John Coffey was born July 26, 1945 in Friend, Nebraska at Warren Memorial Hospital to Leonard and Reta Mae (Harre) Coffey, the oldest of five children and passed away suddenly, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the age of 70 years 10 months and 5 days. As a young boy he attended Parochial School in Exeter and graduated with the class of 1963 from Exeter High School. His first job was working for Styskal Well Drilling. Dick was united in marriage to Barbara Foreman on August 22, 1964, and they began their life together in Friend. To this union, five children were born: Douglas, Michael, Thomas, Theresa and Lisa. Dick began a lifelong career in the lumber industry with employment at Yost Brothers Lumber Company in Friend. In December of 1967, he was transferred to their lumber yard in Beaver Crossing and was the Manager until they closed in 1985. Dick then went to work as the Manager at Batterton Home Improvement in York for the next 28 years until he retired in January of 2013. Dick joined the Beaver Crossing Volunteer Fire Department in 1968. He trained as an EMT and served as the Fire Chief for several years. In 2000, he became an inactive member. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served on the building committee during the construction of the new church. He loved fishing and hunting, and going to dances. He spent many days taking his kids, and later his grandkids, out fishing and hunting. In the last few years, he entertained his family and friends with the tales of glory and mishaps that went with the hunting and fishing adventures. Richard was known by many names. Some called him Richard or Rich, some knew him as Dick, and to others he was Mr. Coffey. To his family, he was Dad, Grandpa, Dear – usually “yes, dear or no, dear”, Uncle Rich, or Uncle Dick. No matter what name you called him, you knew he was the man with the big heart and loud laugh. He loved his family and his friends and he was well-loved in return! He is survived by his wife, Barbara, children and spouses, Doug and Bobbi Coffey, Mike and Sharri Coffey, Tom Coffey and Carol Hammond, Theresa and Derek Palik, Lisa Coffey and Steve Shaner, 12 grandchildren, Mitchell Coffey and Miranda Johnson, Miranda Coffey, Macie Coffey, Brandon and Emily Coffey, Breckin and Monica Coffey, Sage Penner and Courtney Reiman, Kian Coffey and Quinn Coffey, Devin Coffey, Levi Coffey, Ty Palik and Kya Palik, 2 great-grandchildren, Ximena Coffey and Octavius Coffey, mother, Reta Mae Coffey, sisters and brother-in-law, Sylvia Christensen, Jeanette and Raymond Franzen, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Peg Coffey, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
