Brother Jones served in the army for more than four years (25 Sep 1861 - 11 Nov 1865) during the Civil War. He was a member of the G.A.R. and the I.O.O.F. and for about forty years a member of the M. E. church. He had resided in the vicinity of Beaver Crossing for about 36 years and those who knew him best loved him most. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife two sons, Carl W. of Blair and A. D. of Litchfield, and two sisters and two brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Friday, March 21, Rev. L. R. Hansbury, pastor, conducting the services. Deceased being an old soldier, the church altar and rail were appropriately decorated with American flags. The casket was covered with a large American flag and one beautiful floral tribute. The ceremony at the grave was conducted by the members of the I.O.O.F. local lodge assisted by the brothers from Utica. Five of the old soldier comrades of the deceased were at the funeral and carried the Stars and Stripes under which they all fought in the great war of the rebellion. Richard Jones was laid to rest in the Beaver Crossing cemetery and the wife and sons who are left to mourn, have the sympathy of our citizens in their sad hour of bereavement.
