Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Paul Colling officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. He died with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard L. “Dick” Burr was born Jan. 22, 1946, in Kearney to Roy and Elaine (Rohde) Burr. He grew up near Eddyville and was a 1964 graduate of Eddyville High School. Dick went on to attend Kearney State College where he played football for one year. On Nov. 12, 1966, Dick was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Connie Snyder. The couple made their first home in Eddyville. Dick was employed by Wheelers/Orscheln for 36 years at several locations in Nebraska and most recently in Kearney. Dick and Connie lived in Gibbon for a majority of those years and most recently in Kearney. Following his career at Orscheln, Dick managed the Gibbon American Legion for two years and then worked at Menards. Dick was an avid sports fan. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. As a dad, he followed and enjoyed watching his sons in all their sporting events. He enjoyed making breakfast and playing cards in the goose blind and teaching his boys to hunt. Annual fishing trips to South Dakota with his sons, grandsons, brother and nephews was a particular favorite of Dick’s. His interest in sports continued as grandchildren arrived, as he rarely missed an event or activity. He was known for mentoring young people at work. Dick was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he was active in the food pantry and Liturgy Committee. He was a past member of the Nebraska National Guard and the Riverside Cemetery Board and was a member of the American Legion and Sons of the American Legion at the time of his death. Dick was a loyal University of Nebraska at Kearney Loper fan. For 32 years, Dick was a member of the chain gang for all the UNK home football games. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie Burr of Kearney; sons, Brent Burr and wife Amber of Gibbon and Dan Burr and wife Alyssa of Shelton; grandchildren, Jamie, Nicole, Brienna, Christian, Kalen, Emily and Addison; great-grandchildren, Jace, Connor, Riley, Timothy and Timery; mother, Elaine Burr of Gibbon; brother, Kenny Burr and wife Sandy of Sumner; sister, Charlotte Myrick and husband Jim of Gibbon; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Dick was preceded in death by his father and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
