A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 17th at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Monday morning. Richard "Dick" Hooey, the son of Alexander and Ethel (Verke) Hooey, was born on June 17, 1933 in Churchs Ferry, North Dakota. After his fathers' death, the family moved to Nekoma, North Dakota. He later lived near Fairdale, North Dakota with his grandparents, Carl and Caroline Verke. He received his education at Osnobrock Township consolidated school. He worked at area farms before moving to Grand Forks, North Dakota and working at Armour and Co. He married Mary Drees on July 27, 1957 and then worked as a carrier supervisor for the Grand Forks Herald from 1957 until 1969. He then worked for the Minneapolis Tribune until 1973, when he and his wife purchased the Golf Terrace Motel and moved to Crookston Minnesota. In 1975, they moved to Valley City after purchasing the Flickertail Inn. After selling the motels, he worked as an equipment manager at the "Bubble" at Valley City State University. He retired after 17 years in 1998. In 2000, he started working as a part time custodian at Faith Lutheran church where he was a member. Dick is survived by three sons: Jeffrey (Audrey) Hooey, Fargo; Randall (Wanda) Hooey, Dakota Dunes,South Dakota; Brent (Kami) Hooey, Atkinson, Nebraska; one daughter, Cindy (Mike) Christensen, Missoula, Montana; grandchildren: Alex, Josh, Lucas and Sam Hooey, Travis and Melissa Miner, Jesse and Nick Christensen, Randy Jr. (Mallory) Hooey, Chad and Angie Holler, Lana, Zach and Hannah Hooey, great grand-daughter Mallie Miner. Two sisters: Ardelle (Don) Krom , Bella (Elmer) Hammer and two sisters-in-law Rosie and Bonnie Hooey. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents, and brothers, William, Edward and Allan.
