Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Bradshaw, with the Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Council Cemetery near Bradshaw. Mr. Wurst was born on Feb. 4, 1924, at Beaver Crossing to Gotlieb and Elise (Kurtzen) Wurst. He married Dian Elma Wiley on Sept. 5, 1953, in Laramie, Wyo. She died on Oct. 11, 2008. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Greg Wilkinson of Kearney; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Ann Wurst of Taylor; two sisters, Lois Nicholson of Lincoln and Marie Carlson of Polk; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Lillie Wurst of York; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Lynne and Jim Wiley-Poage of Houston. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sage Wilkinson, Colby and Heath Wurst; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. He attended and graduated from school at McCool Junction. After graduating, he began working for a farmer in Minnesota for a short time. He then enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. After serving his country, he returned to farm north of Bradshaw. He and Dian had two children. The family lived in Bradshaw and Richard continued farming in the Bradshaw area. In 1987, Richard retired and they moved to Stromsburg. He remained active by helping on the family farm after retirement. In January 2005, Richard moved to Park Villa Apartments, where he remained until March, before moving in with his daughter, Lisa, in Kearney, where he remained until July 2005, when he moved to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Richard remained at the Midwest Covenant Home until his passing. He was a member of the Bradshaw American Legion, VFW in Bradshaw and Polk and a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremiah Wurst; his parents, Gotlieb and Elise Wurst; brothers and sisters, Frank Wurst, Ruby Sheldon, Clarence Wurst, Herman Wurst, Willie Wurst, Eunice Rahorst and Rose Brown.
