Description	:	Richard "Dick" Green, 88, of Miles City died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City. Mr. Green was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Exeland, Wis., the youngest of the family born to Richard Lee and Mabel Hibbard Green. In 1922, the family moved to North Loup, Neb. Read More	Richard "Dick" Green, 88, of Miles City died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City. Mr. Green was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Exeland, Wis., the youngest of the family born to Richard Lee and Mabel Hibbard Green. In 1922, the family moved to North Loup, Neb. In 1924, he and his mother traveled to Knowlton where she purchased the Knowlton Store. They returned to Nebraska and later the family moved to Knowlton driving their new Model T. Ford. They operated the store and farmed the homestead they had filed on in 1910, eight miles southeast of Knowlton. Mr. Green attended grade school at Knowlton, Dragseth School and later Custer County High School. In 1933, his mother suffered a stroke and in 1934 they moved to Miles City. In 1941, Mr. Green was inducted into the Army and was sent to the South Pacific in February of 1942. He served in Hawaii, the Gilbert Islands, the Carolina Islands and participated in the invasion of Sipan and Tinian. He spent the remainder of his military service at New Hebrides and returned to the states in March of 1945 on furlough. He and Evalyn Myers were married in Miles City on April 28, 1945. Mr. Green returned to Salt Lake City where he was scheduled for deployment to Okinawa, instead he was discharged in May. He was the first World War II serviceman from Custer County to be discharged using the point system. Mr. Green began working for Montana Dakota Utilities in 1945 and later worked for various plumbers in Miles City. In 1950, he opened his own plumbling and heating business, which he and his wife operated until their retirement. His hobby was breaking and training horses. He kept several pastured near Miles City over the years, often at his brother Clarence's acreage. He often helped with branding and gathering cattle at different ranches in the Ismay area. Mr. Green was a member of the Yellowstone Trail Blazers and the Elks Club. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His survivors include his wife, Evalyn of Miles City; one son, Howard (Loretta Rosh) Green of billings; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rachael Wildman; and two brothers, Clarence and Al. Funeral servics will be Friday, March 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
