Read More	Richard "Dick" Freeman November 7, 1928 - August 17, 2014 Resided in Perham, MN Obituary Richard Leigh Freeman was born on November 7, 1928 in Fargo, North Dakota. His parents were the late Leigh and Mabel (Peterson) Freeman. He graduated from the old Central High School in Fargo, North Dakota with the Class of 1946. He worked part time while attending school at the Oak Grove Grocery Store and Fargo Floral. He began working for Northwestern Bell in 1947. He started out with trimming trees, and as a cable splicing helper. He then attended the companies cable splicer school in Bismarck, North Dakota. He was then employed as the companies district cable splicer in Jamestown, North Dakota. On December 30, 1949 Richard was united in marriage to Patricia Bauer in Fargo, North Dakota. They were transferred from Jamestown to Williston, North Dakota, then to Fargo where he held many positions with the company; including outside plant engineering, cable mtc. foreman and Fargo district construction supervisor. Dick retired from Northwestern Bell in 1981 after working for the company for 34 ½ years. Besides his work, he was a certified motor vehicle driver instructor, Multi-Media first aid instructor, CPR instructor, and putting on many sessions with the area contractors encouraging them to call for buried utility locations before they dig. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, The Gideons and very active in the Cass County Safety Counsel. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Prairie Girl Scout Counsel. He helped to start a Boy Scout Troop at the First Congregational Church and was a Scout Master for years. After retiring he continued to stay active working for Moorhead Electric and the Red River Telephone Company on a contract basis. During the Minnesota winters, Pat and Dick enjoyed visiting with their daughter, Kristin and family in Yuma, Arizona. Their first summer home was on Lake Lida. The purchase and rebuilding of their home on Dead Lake, near Richville, Minnesota kept them very busy. In 1990, they permanently moved into their home. Richard served as President of the Dead Lakes Association while they lived there. In 1996 they purchased a condo in Perham, Minnesota and in 2003 they moved to Briarwood in Perham. They enjoyed volunteer activities. Richard and Pat enjoyed playing dominoes and after moving to Briarwood taught many to play. Richard enjoyed calling Bingo and leading the games. He assisted with Diabetic monthly meetings. On August 17, 2014 Richard passed away at Pine Harbor-Perham Living in Perham, Minnesota at 85 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Richard in death were his parents; daughter, Katherine Carr; son-in-law, Rene Ozuna; sisters, Edna Robbins, Ethel Monson and Sister Marie Geraldine Freeman; brothers: Charles, Walter and twin brothers: Neil & Norman. Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia Freeman of 64 years; daughters: Rosemary (David) Hillerson of Fargo, North Dakota; Peggy (Gary) Wright of Aurora, Colorado; Terri Holden of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Kristin Ozuna of Yuma, Arizona; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 step-granddaughters; 3 step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Marjorie (Edward) Schenatzki of Pelican Rapids; Janet "Peggy" (Morris) Anderson of Hamilton, Montana; many other relatives and a host of friends.
