Read More	Richard Leslie Meyer, 74 years, of Mission, TX passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Edinburg Nursing & Rehab Center in Edinburg, TX. Rich was born February 28, 1944 in Fremont, NE, the eldest child of the late great Henry "Hank" and Vivian (Kent) Meyer. He grew up in Fremont. At the age of twelve, he became an Eagle Scout. Rich graduated from Fremont High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 10, 1962 to September 8, 1966, during Vietnam as a sailor on the USS Midway and the USS Neches. Rich was at heart a teacher, and he spent his working years as a technical instructor for Southwestern Bell/AT&T. After he completed his service in the Navy, his career sent him all over the world, but his home base was always in the Midwest: Lyons, Nebraska, where he was an active member in the Jaycees, then he was transferred in 1974 to Independence, Missouri, retiring from AT&T in 1998. He became a snow bird, Living in Overland Park, KS in the summertime, and Mission, Texas through the winter. Rich enjoyed a variety of interests and was always happy to share them. He had a passion for square dancing and continued to dance technically advanced programs across the country as long as possible. He loved going on cruises and traveling, and was able to experience places as exotic as Australia, Tahiti, Germany, and Bora Bora. He enjoyed science fiction/fantasy novels and films, was a particular fan of the original Star Trek and Star Wars, and had an impressive collection of wizard and unicorn statues and Randal Spangler art prints. Rich loved classic country music and cartoons of all kinds, especially Peanuts and Looney Tunes, and was a skilled artist himself. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Meyer; brother, Jeffrey Meyer; and sister, Terri Jo Meyer. Survivors include three daughters, Lori Meyer (Jason Miller), Vicki Walters (Steven), and Wendi Meyer, all of Independence, MO; his mother, Vivian Meyer of Fremont; brother, Jerry (Valerie) Meyer of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ronald (Jane) Meyer of Fremont; two grandchildren, Parker Walters and Savannah “Charlie” Walters, both of Independence, MO; Special friends, Harold “Hank” and Terri Samson of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Carol Biard of Mission, TX, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Moser Memorial Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military honors. The family’s beloved Pastor Leland Foreman and the Rev. Richard Crooks will officiate.
