Edwards Dead Another Old Veteran MULLINS - News was received in Mullins Tuesday morning of last week announcing the death of Mr. Rich Edwards, which occurred at the Confederate Home in Columbia at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning, after a brief illness. Mr. Edwards was 82 years old and was born and reared in old Marion county where he lived practically all his life. His body was brought here and carried to the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rufus Edwards, on North Park street. The funeral was held at Miller's church on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, and the interment took place in the grave yard. Deceased was a life long member of Millers church, and his remains were interred beside those of his wife and three sons. His wife preceded him to the grave about eight years ago. Mr. Edwards was an old Confederate soldier and was held in the highest esteem by every one who knew him. He being lonely on account of the death of his wife and two sons, the latter having died more recently, he chose to go to the Old Soldier's Home, in Columbia to be among the few remaining comrades of the "Lost Cause," and it was there he died. Rich Edwards was a good man, and for years was an official member of his (Millers) church. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, as follows: Horry Edwards, Ft. Worth, Texas; Ham Edwards, Palmetto, Fla., and L. B. Edwards, Mullins; Mrs. Katie Roberts and Mrs. Laura Owens, Fork. All of his children, seven in number, are dead, the last one, Rufus Edwards having died about two years ago. Published in the Dillon Herald, September 23, 1926 Note: Five of the seven deceased children were, L. Travis, Willie M., Leonzo, Richard and Rufus.
