Barnhouse, 77 EAST PALESTINE - Richard O. Barnhouse, 77, of Bacon Avenue, died at 4:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 1996, at the Salem Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in East Palestine Nov. 8, 1918, a son of the late Cramblit E. and Emma Lou Sams Barnhouse. A lifelong resident of East Palestine, he was employed as a drag line operator at several coal companies before retiring in 1986 from the Paris Construction Company. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Lake Mount Church of Christ in New Waterford where he served as elder, deacon, trustee and treasurer; American Legion Benjamin Firestore Post 290 of Columbiana; Unity Ruritan Club, where he served as a treasurer and zone governor; American Association of Retired Persons 2292; and the Historical Society of East Palestine. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Campbell Barnhouse; a sister, Myrtle Swartz; and six brothers Harry Barnhouse, Leonard Barnhouse, Arlie Barnhouse, Elmer Barnhouse, Howard Barnhouse and Homer Barnhouse. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Huston Barnhouse, whom he married Jan. 26, 1995; two sons, Larry R. Barnhouse of Columbiana and Edward E. Barnhouse of Negley; four daughters, Sandra Crawford of Rogers, Mrs. Kenneth (Judith) Cox of Collinsville, Okla., Mrs. William (Carol) Lommatzsch of Waterville, Ohio and Mrs. Gary (Debra E. ) Booth of New Waterford; a stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Klare) Meek of East Palestine; a sister, Betty Nell of New Waterford; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Evangelist Darrell Hall of the church and Clarence Mansfield of the Columbiana Christian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
