Read More	Summit Daily News (CO) - Thursday, April 27, 2006 Provost was born Aug. 1, 1923, in Clyde, Kan. to Edward and Gertrude Provost. Provost began his career in Latin America after serving as a fighter pilot on the USS Yorktown during World War II. After graduating from high school in Blue Rapids, he joined the Navy as an aviator, reaching the rank of ensign and serving as a MP with the occupation forces in Japan. After the war, he joined his uncle, Dick Boorgaart, in Mexico to start a successful modern supermarket chain, TODOS, until forced out by the government. He enrolled at Kansas University under the GI Bill where he met his future wife, Barbara Lamoreaux, of Waterville, Kan. In 1949, he relocated to Maracaibo, Venezuela to start another supermarket chain, CADA, for the Rockefeller family-owned IBEC. He was soon married by proxy to Barbara and moved to Caracas where they had five children: Richard Edward, Rebecca Olivia, Suzanne Marie, Roger Owen and Paul Eric. During the 26 years he spent in Venezuela he was involved with projects in Peru, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. CADA developed nearly 50 shopping centers and the last, CCCT in Caracas, was the largest retail development in South America at the time and is still in operation. He retired to Dillon in 1976 where he was an avid skier, a loved townsman, a dedicated son, a loyal brother, a wonderful father and a doting grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and his oldest son, Richard. He is survived by his sister Anne Scheetz of Marysville, Kan.; daughter Rebecca Spicci and her husband Morris, of Potomac, Md.; daughter Suzanne Provost of Melbourne, Fla.; son Roger Provost and his wife Janice, of Dallas, Texas; son Paul Provost and his wife Whitney, of Glendale, Calif.; and grandchildren Michael Spicci, Richard Spicci and Alena Cahill. Provost lived adventurous life Summit Daily News (CO) - Friday, April 28, 2006 Richard Provost and I met more than 25 years ago in Dillon. We've been friends all of those years. His obituary gives only hints of the adventures he experienced. One of the best tales was of his flying his fighter plane in the inside circle of planes slowly circling the battleship Missouri at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay in 1945.
