Description	:	Son of John Sykes and Susannah Owen(s). Richard Owens Sykes was born in Haverstraw, N. Y., Aug. 10, 1848, and died at his home in Nevada, Iowa, Feb. 1, 1907, aged 58 years. His people removed to Whiteside Co., Ill., while he was a child, and here he received his education and grew to manhood. In 1872 he went to Page Co., Iowa, to make his home. Read More	Son of John Sykes and Susannah Owen(s). Richard Owens Sykes was born in Haverstraw, N. Y., Aug. 10, 1848, and died at his home in Nevada, Iowa, Feb. 1, 1907, aged 58 years. His people removed to Whiteside Co., Ill., while he was a child, and here he received his education and grew to manhood. In 1872 he went to Page Co., Iowa, to make his home. Here he was married Jan. 15, 1879 to Harriet Ritnour, who survives him. Since 1891 his home has been in or near Nevada, Iowa. He united with the Methodist church in 1897, in the pastorate of D. Austin. His life was one of strict integrity and of steadfast Christian faith. In deposition he was retiring, kindly and cheerful. By those who knew him best he was the most esteemed and trusted. The brief but violent and painful illness which brought his life so unexpectedly to a close was borne patiently, with unselfish concern for her who cared for him more than for himself. Interment was made in the Nevada cemetery on Sunday. Rev. Fletcher Brown from Indianola officiating. Those present from out of town were Mrs. W. B. Smith of Morrison, Ill., Mrs. W. F. Hayden of Chicago, Ill., sisters of the deceased; John Sykes of Morrison, Ill., nephew of the deceased; Mr. Geo. Ritnour, father of Mrs. Sykes, and James Ritnour, brother of Mrs. Sykes, from Adams Co., Iowa. The Whiteside Sentinel 14 Feb 1907
