Description	:	Richard P. HIBBARD Richard P Hibbard, a Bellevue resident for the past 47 years, passed away on May 7, 2009 from complications of cancer. Mr. Hibbard was born on Nov 1, 1923 to Richard T. and Doris E. Hibbard in Defiance, Ohio. During his school years, he was active in music and sports and was recognized as a class leader. Mr. Hibbard was born on Nov 1, 1923 to Richard T. and Doris E. Hibbard in Defiance, Ohio. During his school years, he was active in music and sports and was recognized as a class leader. A lifelong passion for flying began early, and he obtained his pilots license at age 16. He attended Tri State College in Angola, IN, prior to being drafted for military service. He was assigned to the Army Air Corps pilot training program, receiving his wings and commission. He was assigned to a B-24 pilot combat crew. He continued his service in the active reserve with the Michigan and Illinois Army National Guard and the 92nd Aviation Company based at Sandpoint NAS in Seattle. In August 1980 he transferred to the retired reserve with the rank of Major CE. After WW II he attended the University of Toledo and earned a degree in Mechanical-Industrial Engineering. He married Phyllis A. Kirchoffer of Toledo, Ohio. They moved to Lansing, MI and then to North Chicago, IL. The Boeing Co. moved them to Seattle, WA. where he later joined the faculty and staff of the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Washington. He retired from the UW in December 1983 as an Emeritus Lecturer but continued as a faculty member on a part time basis. He was known internationally for his part in the development of design criteria in the field of industrial ventilation. He authored many published articles on industrial ventilation applications. Mr. Hibbard was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis. Survivors include daughters Barbara R. Ramey, Marcia K. Craig, Rebecca A. Bringham, Patricia J. Bruner and son John R. Hibbard, eight grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, Evergreen Healthcare Foundation, or your favorite charity.
