Description	:	Richard Pierce, son of Pierce B. and Sarah Van Boskirk Bissell, was born in 1846 in Rock Island, Illinois. He married Frances (Fanny) Eliza Cloud on July 3, 1870, in western Iowa. She was the daughter of Samuel and Eliza Ann Case Cloud and was born in Johnson County, Iowa, near the small town of Swisher. After their marriage, they moved to Rock Island County, Illinois. Read More	Richard Pierce, son of Pierce B. and Sarah Van Boskirk Bissell, was born in 1846 in Rock Island, Illinois. He married Frances (Fanny) Eliza Cloud on July 3, 1870, in western Iowa. She was the daughter of Samuel and Eliza Ann Case Cloud and was born in Johnson County, Iowa, near the small town of Swisher. After their marriage, they moved to Rock Island County, Illinois. In the spring of 1874, accompanied by their two sons, Richard's mother, and his brother and wife, the family settled on a farm south of Anita, Iowa, near the Maple Valley School. In 1883 the families moved to a rented farm in Massena Township a mile east of Whitneyville. This farm in later years was owned by Henry Bissell. In 1891 Richard purchased a farm just west of Pine Grove Church, where he and Fanny reared their ten children. Richard served his country from 1862 until 1865 as a private and sergeant of Company L, 17th Regiment Illinois Cavalry. He was discharged at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on December 20, 1865. He was also a member of the Massena G.A.R. On July 3, 1920, Richard and Fanny celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and again in 1923 in honor of their 53rd anniversary, with a family and a basket dinner. Richard passed away in 1926, and Fanny in 1931. They are both buried at the Massena Center Cemetery, along with most of their family. Their children were: Guy, 1871-1949; William, 1872-1945; Cora (Porter), 1874-1957; Samuel, 1875-1955; Harry, 1887-1943; Richard N., 1879-1935; Charles, 1884-1970; Blanche (Hines), 1889-1936; Minnie (Hatfield), 1892-1978; and Maude, (1895-1980.
