Description	:	Richard was born the son of Stephen Richards [1785] MD and Catherine Stocksdale [1784] MD. He was born in old Baltimore County [present Carroll County] Maryland. Richard's forebear, Edward Richards [1678] Eng/MD; arrived in the new world just about 100 years before he was born. Edward, son Richard Sr. [1718], and son-in-law William Winchester [1710], husband of Lydia Richards, Edward's daughter; were instrumental in pioneering, settling, and laying out three communities in that area: Hampstead, Manchester, and Westminster MD; respectively. Edward, son Richard Sr. [1718], and son-in-law William Winchester [1710], husband of Lydia Richards, Edward's daughter; were instrumental in pioneering, settling, and laying out three communities in that area: Hampstead, Manchester, and Westminster MD; respectively. Richard and wife Isabella, married 15 December 1835, moved west with his father Stephen's family out of Maryland into Harrison Township of Darke County Ohio to make a new life for themselves. They settled about 2 miles south of what would eventually become Hollansburg OH. Stephen, Richard, and his brothers Cornelius, Amon, Joshua, and Jesse Amon all lived and farmed in that area. Cornelius, Richard's brother; was already in Muscatine county--having moved there in 1852 from Darke County OH. Richards F 21 Ohio Obituary: "Richard Richards was born May 30, A.D. 1811 in Carroll county, Maryland; was married to Mrs. Isabel Fetters, in Hollansburg, Ohio, December 14th 1835; died November 30th 1889. Fruits of the union was eleven children of which six are now living to mourn the loss of kind and loving father. He was converted about the year 1835, joined the Methodists, and then in Ohio united with the Disciples. On moving to Iowa he cast his lot with the United Brethren in Christ, and finally died full in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ. Funeral services were conducted at the school house in District #9 to a large and attentive audience of friends and relatives, who after funeral services proceeded to lay the body quietly away in the Scranton Cemetery. Thos. C. Bott Richard had distant cousins living in Marion County IA, who stemmed from the same ancestor: Edward Richards [1678] of Hampstead Maryland. James Westley Richards [1833] IL [buried about 92 miles to the south east] had moved his family into IA [near Gosport] around 1847 from Macoupin County IL after a brief stop-off in Andrew County MO.
