Richard “Dick” R. Brown, 85, of N. Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Monon, IN, died at 9:38 AM on May 30, 2013 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC after a brief illness. He was born on January 21, 1928 in Monon, IN to the late Archie & Ruth (Ogborn) Brown and later adopted by the late Floyd Brown.

Richard “Dick” R. Brown, 85, of N. Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Monon, IN, died at 9:38 AM on May 30, 2013 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC after a brief illness. He was born on January 21, 1928 in Monon, IN to the late Archie & Ruth (Ogborn) Brown and later adopted by the late Floyd Brown.
Dick was raised in Monon, IN on a farm NW of town. He served in the United State’s Army and did two tours in the Korean War where he was shot 7 times in one day and awarded the Purple Heart. After the war he returned to the Monon farm where he was raised and lived there until the first time he retired in 1978. In 1982 he and Betty moved to Cape Coral, FL where he enjoyed boating, fishing and working in their beautiful yard. In 1985 he came out of retirement and started BJ Mowing, Inc where they mowed vacant land for the City of Cape Coral. He retired again for the final time in 2000 when they bought their first of several motorhomes and traveled all over the United States until 2008. He took excellent care of Betty in her final months and since her death remained in N Ft Myers until his recent illness and then was moved to Columbia, SC to be closer to family.
He is survived by his children, Thomas (Patty) Brown of Cape Coral, FL, Sharon (Ron) Allen of Reynolds, IN, Sheila (Gary) Gilmore of Reynolds, IN and Pamela (Mike) Hoover of Columbia, SC, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty J Brown, daughter, Nancy Brown, twin great-grandchildren; Bryce and Bradie, four brothers and 3 sisters; John E. Brown, Lorena D. (Trost) Johnson, Keith M. Brown, Robert E. Brown, June D. Jones, Jack G. Brown, Millie L. Buschman.
A Memorial Service officiated by Rev. Glenn Knepp will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013, 10:00 AM at the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Church Street & US 24 E, Reynolds, where the family will receive friends starting at 9:00 AM.
