Following his enlistment in the Navy, he received his law degree from the University of Florida, having graduated first in his class, and joined the law firm of Fitzpatrick & Fitzpatrick, founded by his late father, Charles B. Fitzpatrick Jr. He served as the attorney for the Citrus County School Board for more than 28 years and represented the Citrus County Sheriff's office as well. He also served as legal councel for First Federal Savings & Loan of Citrus County, Suncoast Division of Sun Banks, and Regions Bank, Active in many community affairs, he served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and was selected as their Distinguished Citizen of the Year. He also was a longtime and lifetime member of the Citrus County Fair Board, where he served as legal counsel. Always intersted in sports, he was an avid Florida Gators fan. He followed the athletic careers of his children, attending most practices, giving advice and encouragement, and seldom missing a game. Spike was a most benevolent gentleman and donated many hours of his professional time as well as monetary assistance to help numerous organizations and individuals during his career. He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Fitzpatrick, Sept. 8, 1979; his father Charles B. Fitzpatrick Jr., Jan. 1, 1986; and his grandmother Beatrice Engel, June 22, 2005. He is survived by his wife Nancy Blake Fitzpatrick of Inverness, two sons: Shawn Fitzpatrick of St. Petersburg and Brian B.R. Fitzpatrick of Inverness, three daughters, Katherine F. Stephenson and husband Trent of Tampa, Megan T. Fitzpatrick of Los Angeles, CA, and Molly K. Fitzpatrick of Inverness, his mother Dorothy Fitzpatrick of Inverness, three brothers, Michael Fitzpatrick and wife Brenda (Connors) Fitzpatrick of Inverness, Patrick Fitzpatrick and wife Laura Lou (Tolle)of Crystal River, and Kevin T. Fitzpatrick and wife Adele of Inverness; one grandson, Carter T. Stephenson; two godchildren, Michael Fitzpatrick and Cody Bogart; and close friend to the entire family Barbie Bogart. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, burial with military honors at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness.
