Description : Came to what is now Mecklenburg county, VA after purchasing 531 ac of land from Samuel & Elizabeth Phelps in 1760. There he would spend the rest of his life as planter and proprietor of the licensed (1761) 'ordinary' that was transferred (1794) by his estate to his son-in-law Alexander Boyd, and thereafter known as Boyd's Tavern. What is now known as the Alexander Boyd Cemetery was part of the same parcel of land. Richard Swepson's first wife (Jane, d. bef 1779) is believed to have been the earliest burial at the site.
