Description	:	Son of Richard Rowland and Adaline Becon. Richard Taplin Rowland and Barbara Krisinger were married December 16, 1879 in Nevinville, Colony Twp, Adams, Iowa. Richard brought his wife, Barbara, and family to Alberta about 1900, travelling by rail from South Dakota. Unfortunately, they lost all of their settlers effects when the box car with their belongings caught fire, arriving in Calgary with only the clothes they were wearing. Rowland, a pioneer resident of this district passed away at his home on Monday, September 15. Deceased had been in poor health for some time and proved a very patient sufferer. Mr. Rowland was born in Vermont, Dec. 18, 1850, moving from there to Wisconsin, and later to Iowa, where he met and married Barbara Krisinger. Thirty years ago they came to Lacombe, taking up a homestead in the Iowalta district, where they have lived ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Rowland recently celebrated their Golden Wedding. Besides his widow he leaves four sons, Edgar, of Oregon; Guy, of Medicine Hat, Hugh and Frank of Lacombe; two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Dool, of Wembley, and Mrs. Leslie Frizzell, of Lacombe. A large number of friends gathered on the lawn for the service, which was conducted by Rev. Mr. Layton of Lacombe, and Rev. Mr. Wright of Morningside. The Pall-bearers were Messrs. Ogilvie, Key, Kinley, Butcher, Eadie and Taylor. Many beautiful floral tokens conveyed the heart felt sympathy of the neighborhood to the family. Western Globe, September 25, 1930
