Description	:	Richard Totton, age 82 died August 27, 2010 at St. Mary's hospital in Pierre, SD surrounded by family. Richard was born on June 11, 1928 at home near Norris, SD. He attended his first eight years of school at the Norris public school and one year of high school in Kadoka, SD. In 1943 he started working for area farmers and ranchers. He completed his tour... Read More	Richard Totton, age 82 died August 27, 2010 at St. Mary's hospital in Pierre, SD surrounded by family. Richard was born on June 11, 1928 at home near Norris, SD. He attended his first eight years of school at the Norris public school and one year of high school in Kadoka, SD. In 1943 he started working for area farmers and ranchers. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran church. In 1951 he was drafted into the army. He attended basic training at camp Chaffee, Arkansas. His tour of duty was eighteen months in Japan. He completed his tour in 1953 and began six years of inactive army reserve. He married Erna Ring on August 22, 1953. He worked for the Ring family from 1946 to 1961. In 1961 he started hauling mail from Norris, SD to Mission, SD and did this for 18 years. Then owned the Norris gas station and ran a standard bulk fuel truck for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Bertha (Rickgauer) Totton, four brothers Kenneth, Vernon, Will, and Bruce, one granddaughter Tonya Totton and two nieces Mary Jo Totton, Deanna Totton Holms and great niece Heather Holms. He is survived by his wife Erna of 57 years and their children Karen Totton of White River, SD, Linda Totton of Pierre, SD, Darrell Totton of Sioux Falls, SD and Charles Totton (Tanya) of Chamberlain, SD, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by three brothers Bob Totton (Ellen), Rex Totton (Nancy), and Jake Totton. Richard shared his years with his wife Erna, family and friends. They enjoyed a life full of square dancing, hunting, ranching, family reunions, traveling and attending events for grandchildren. Richard especially enjoyed Erna's cooking. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 30, 2010 at St. John Lutheran church in Norris, SD at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Norris cemetery.
