He was married to Doris Marie Sharer and they were life-long residents of Montezuma, Iowa. Dick was a general contractor who owned and operated Bowers Construction Company. He was Montezuma Volunteer fire chief for 24 years with a passion for fire prevention, safety, and training at both the local and state levels.
