Tuesday at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala. Richard was born April 16, 1948 in Lincoln, NE, the son of Robert and Arlene Vondrasek Holechek. When he was a young child he moved with his family to Lexington. After a short time they moved to Sidney and two years later moved to Bridgeport where the family purchased Canady Funeral Home. Richard graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1966. He attended the University of Wyoming and then transferred to Chadron State College. In 1971 he graduated with a BS degree in English Education. On June 6, 1970 Richard married Rose Lee Hochman in Sidney. Mr. Holechek taught school in Gurley, Ne. from 1971 to 1975. The Holecheks then relocated to Schuyler where he taught from 1975 to 1984. Mr. Holechek received his Masters Degree in Counseling and Education from Wayne State College in 1982. In 1984 the family moved to Ogallala and Richard began his position as a counselor in Ogallala High School. He retired in 2003. Mr. Holechek was active in the community and volunteered at the Food Pantry. He was an avid golfer and a volleyball referee and was a Bronco fan. He belonged to the Ogallala Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees. He was the disciple Simon the Zealot in the presentation of The Last Supper for thirteen years. Preceding him in death was his father. Survivors include his wife Rose Holechek of Ogallala, NE; two sons: Rhett Holechek and wife Erin of Omaha, NE and Ryan Holechek of Lincoln, NE; one grandson Landon Holechek of Lincoln, NE; and his mother Arlene Holechek and brother Jim Holechek and wife Jane all of Sidney, NE Online condolences may also be sent to www.drauckerfh.com.
