(Jim) Frank, age 84, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Sunday evening, August 23, 2009, at his home in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Jim Frank was born on March 18, 1925 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to John Jack Frank and Amanda C. (Feddersen) Frank. He was a 1943 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and was a World War II veteran of the Army. He married Bernice Widel on June 12, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Jim had worked as a truck driver for Kirchhoff Distributing Company, a funeral assistant for Carson Funeral Home, and then for the Maquoketa Community School District for 43 years, beginning as a bus driver, janitor, and retiring from the maintenance department in 1990. Jim was a dedicated member of the Maquoketa Fire Department from 1952 until retiring in 1992, becoming fire chief in 1963. He was a member of the Mount Hope Cemetery Association board of directors for many years, and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He received the President's Award from the Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce in 1992, the first year it was awarded. Jim is survived by his wife, Bernice Frank of Maquoketa, IA; a daughter, Sandra Valbert Rockwell of Maquoketa, IA; 2 grandsons, Scott Valbert of Des Moines, IA, and Philip (Samantha) Valbert of Klamath Falls, OR; and 2 great-granddaughters, Anna and Madison Valbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ann, and a brother, JJ. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made directed to Hospice of Jackson County.
