Richard was born August 28, 1930, in Roanoke, VA, son of the late Wade and Beulah Vest, Check, VA. He was a graduate of Check High School and an Army Veteran. Pleasant, SC; nephews, Chris, Mike and Gary Huff of Blackshear, GA; an uncle and aunts, Horace Vest, Allie Vest and Audrey Lee of Check, VA, and Allene Sweeney of Salem, VA; and other family members, Donna Ballenger and Shawn McCann of Florida, and Gary McCann of Maryland. The family received friends and family from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, VA. Graveside services were held at 11am on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Restvale Cemetery, Copper Hill, VA, with Pastor Dan Walker officiating and Military Honors by Floyd VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. Arrangements were provided by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, VA. Published in Roanoke Times from June 12 to June 13, 2008
