Description	:	Richard W. Welsh, 79, retired DeWitt farmer, died in his home there at 10 a.m. today after a long illness. Friends may call beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the McGinnis funeral home. Rev. E.A. Cone will lead recitation of the rosary there Thursday at 7:30 p.m. A requiem high mass will be offered in St. Joseph's church at 9:30 a.m. Friday, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. He attended schools in that vicinity and was married to Estella McDonald Feb. 15, 1904, in St. Martin's church, Emery, S.D. The couple farmed near Petersville for five years, northwest of DeWitt for two years and at their home place near DeWitt for 33 years. They retired and moved to DeWitt 12 years ago. Mr. Welsh was a member of St. Joseph's Church, DeWitt. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Raymond and Leo, both of DeWitt; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Burke of Chicago; Mrs. Leo Connell of DeWitt; Mrs. H.J. Wenzlick of Bremerton, Wash., and Miss Geraldine Welsh, Panama Canal Zone; two brothers, Frank of Charlotte and James of Davenport, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Smith, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers. (Clinton Herald, March 22, 1955)
