Description	:	Richmond (Bud) Llewellyn Knapp, Sr age 92 of Easton, Connecticut peacefully passed at home on January 4, 2017 with his beloved and devoted wife, Vera McMillan Marler Knapp at his side. “Bud” was born in Fairfield, son of the late Rufus R and Bernice Storrs Knapp and resided in Easton since 1958. Bud attended the University of Connecticut before enlisting in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a pilot in Asia. He flew the hump over Burma. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves for 29 years achieving the rank of Lt Colonel. He went to work for Ford Motor Company, then Sikorsky Aircraft where he retired in 1992 after 42 years as a quality assurance manager. Bud was a direct descendant of Charles and Augustus Storrs whose land grant established the University of Connecticut campus. Interestingly, he is also a descendant of Goodwife Knapp, who was executed in Fairfield for witchcraft in 1653. It is likely she was hanged because of an ongoing argument with a neighbor when an epidemic of witchcraft suspicions were prevalent in New England. Bud was a life-long member of the Congregational Church of Easton where he served as deacon and facilities chairman. He was also a lifetime member of the Exchange Club of Easton beginning in 1959. During his long life, Bud was an awesome father, son, husband, and friend. A lover of a good Manhattan and any old cigar, Bud was responsible for a lot of really good parties often providing the entertainment with his quick wit. He was fun loving and wildly sarcastic, passing the sarcasm gene on to his offspring and grandchild, Carling, who won most sarcastic in her high school yearbook. And, like every good soldier, he was honest, loyal, hardworking, and a strong provider and protector. In addition to his wife, Vera, of 27 years, he is survived by four children; Richmond, Jr and companion Terrie Sara of Parkridge, Il, Toby Knapp of Southbury, CT, Timothy Knapp, Bristol, CT and Martha Leonard and husband Bill of Avon, CT. He is also survived by his grandchild, Carling Harper and her companion, Charlie Dye as well as his step- children; Michael and wife Chris Marler, of Arnold, MO, Steven and wife Denise Marler of Florescent, MO, Carolyn and husband Jim Sheppard of Imperial, MO and several step-grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemarie Osberg Knapp and grandson, Richmond L. Knapp, III. Special thanks and love to Cecelia and Tian Clarke and their niece, Karla for the extraordinary care and compassion during Bud’s long illness. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 9, at 1:00pm at the Congregational Church of Easton, 336 Westport Rd, Easton, CT 06612, with the Rev. Amanda Ostrove, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow immediately in the church Memorial Garden, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Congregational Church of Easton.
