DeWEES BRETT, 77, a resident of Shook Home for the Aged, Chambersburg, and formerly of 14740 Pennsylvania Ave., Blue Ridge Summit, died at 3:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 1994, in the home. She had been in failing health since August 1993. Born Sept. 13, 1916, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph I., Sr. and Ruth H. (Hunter) Shockey. DeWEES BRETT, 77, a resident of Shook Home for the Aged, Chambersburg, and formerly of 14740 Pennsylvania Ave., Blue Ridge Summit, died at 3:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 1994, in the home. She had been in failing health since August 1993. Born Sept. 13, 1916, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph I., Sr. and Ruth H. (Hunter) Shockey. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro and Blue Ridge Summit areas. Mrs. Brett graduated from Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1934. She graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1939 with a degree in education. She moved back to the Blue Ridge Summit area in 1960 and entered the nursing home on Jan. 18, 1994. Mrs. Brett taught English at Chambersburg High School for a number of years. She then taught in various locations for the State of Maryland. She was the assistant principal of the Maryland Training School for Boys, Towson, Md., when she retired in 1978. She was a member of the national AARP. Mrs. Brett is survived by three daughters, Barbara D. Shank and Susan D. Wetzel, both of Waynesboro, and Christine D. Sanders of Sabillasville; four sons, Robert L. DeWees, Jr. of Ringoes, N.J., James M. DeWees of Canon City, Colo., Frederick H. DeWees of Waynesboro and William R. DeWees of Lost River, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one sister, Joanne Bloom of Blue Ridge Summit. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. DeWees, Sr., her second husband, Sherman G. Brett, and one brother, Ralph I. Shockey, Jr. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Edward S. Sykes officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
