Mrs Ridgway was born Feb 9, 1922 to Albert and Dora (Schutte) Kohmetscher near Lawrence. She was baptized on Feb 12, 1922. She grew up on a farm northwest of Lawrence. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Mrs Ridgway earned GED at age 66. She was united in marriage to Clarence Eickholt in 1942. He died in Italy during WWII. On Sept 3, 1946, she married Leland Ridgway in Lawrence. Leland died in 1980. She and her husband owned and operated the Ridgway Cafe in Fairfield for a number of years. She worked in Hastings for a short time at Mode-O-Day and Good Samaritan Village. She returned to Fairfield where she cooked at Fairfield Elementary and later at Sandy Creek High School. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church, a Gold Star Wife, member of the Clay Center American Legion Auxiliary and Deweese VFW Auxiliary. She had been a resident of the Memorial Community Care Center in Aurora for the past year and a half. Mrs Ridgway was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Herb Kohmetscher, three sisters; Elvira Meents, Evelyn Meyers and Agatha Lewis; grandchildren; Andy and Sandy Bailey and son-in-law Kerry Elliot. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Bob Bailey of Clarinda, Iowa, Roxie and Jim Lampmann of Grant and Rebecca Elliot of Elwood; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Anne Ridgway of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three sisters; Lorene Cochran of Lincoln, Lola Mae Schendt of Lawrence and Velma Carnes of Grand Island.
