Rita Mae Watts, the daughter of Martin and Clara (Schmitz) Rutten, was born on Jan. 10, 1931, on a farm west of Albion. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Rita attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School through the eighth grade. On Oct. 25, 1949, Rita was united in marriage to Robert Watts at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in the Cedar Rapids area. Rita enjoyed sewing and making quilts, reading and tending to her flowers. She is survived by her husband, Bob of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Bobby “Bunky” (Joan) and Bill, both of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Amy (Lonnie) Meyer of Bertrand; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Hilmer of Bertrand; a brother, Ray (Barb) Rutten of Omaha; two sisters, Marlene Wilson of Merrillville, Ind., and Veronica (Harold) Pfeifer of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Ernie Rutten of Cedar Rapids; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Christopher Watts; three brothers, Maurice, Chic and Mark Rutten; and two sisters, Angela Koziol and Georgie Robinson.
