Description	:	CLARKS — Rita Zaruba, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at her son's home in Clarks. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Richard Whiteing will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Anthony's Cemetery at Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service at 7, followed by St. Ann's Altar Society Rosary, all at the church. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Zaruba was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Boone County to Julius and Emma (DeWelf) Wlaschin. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and two daughters, Kathleen Burnight and Joan Nicholas. Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Zaruba of Bennington, Donald and Diana Zaruba of Savage, Minn., and Leroy and Verna Zaruba of Clarks.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jim Buck of Stockton, Mo., and Judy and Bruce Kirby of Rexford, Mont.; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Wlaschin of Albion. She grew up in rural Boone County and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1943. She taught at Rural School District No. 73 from 1943 to 1946. On Sept. 22, 1946, she married Robert Zaruba. Rita was a full-time mother and housewife as well as being active in St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, American Legion and VFW Auxiliary and 4-H. After her children were grown and her husband passed away in 1982, she worked at the Fullerton Public School Library. On April 15, 1993, she married Ben McKeeman and resided on the McKeeman farm near Belgrade until he passed away in 1998. Her last years were spent living first in St. Edward, then Fullerton and finally with her son, LeRoy, and his family in Clarks. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Leo, Bernard, Joseph, Ambrose and Charles, and four sisters, Mary Klassen, Dee Gillham, Margaret Liekhus and Patricia Zaruba.
