Description	:	Mrs. Rita Hite Nelson, 76, wife of Charles Matthew Nelson, passed away at her home on Friday, October 5, 2012. Born November 19, 1935, Rita was the daughter of the late Johnnie Cornelius and Avis Blanks Hite. A graduate of Clarksville High School she continued her education and graduated from Longwood College with the Class of 1957. Rita taught in the Mecklenburg County School System for 13 years and retired from the U.S. Postal System in 1997 after serving as Post Mistress of the Nelson Post Office for 25 years. She was a member of Nelson Baptist Church where she... Read More	Mrs. Rita Hite Nelson, 76, wife of Charles Matthew Nelson, passed away at her home on Friday, October 5, 2012. Born November 19, 1935, Rita was the daughter of the late Johnnie Cornelius and Avis Blanks Hite. A graduate of Clarksville High School she continued her education and graduated from Longwood College with the Class of 1957. Rita taught in the Mecklenburg County School System for 13 years and retired from the U.S. Postal System in 1997 after serving as Post Mistress of the Nelson Post Office for 25 years. She was a member of Nelson Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the WMU. Rita was also a member of "The Golden Girls", a group of her high school friends who met regularly for lunch at the Lamplighter Restaurant. Funeral services will be held 2PM Sunday at Nelson Baptist Church with the Reverend Don Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to her husband of 56 years, Mrs. Nelson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, The Honorable S. Anderson and Pam Nelson and Chuck and Carole Nelson, all of Nelson; sisters, Carolyn H. McGhee and Charlotte H. Coleman, both of Halifax; sister-in-law, Lynn Nelson Yancey of Oxford, NC; granddaughters, Lindsey Nelson, Paige Nelson, Caroline Nelson, and Elizabeth Nelson and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7-9PM Saturday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
