Description	:	Norway - Rivers Fulton Murden, 65, of 437 Judyville Road, Norway, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Double Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Fanning and the Rev. Bud Judy officiating. Burial will be in Double Branch Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Mr. Murden was born July 9, 1943, in Orangeburg, a son of Sue Garrick Murden and the late W.T. Murden. He was a 1961 graduate of Orangeburg High School, a member of Double Branch Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, member of the choir, member of the Adult Sunday School Class and served on various committees in his 38 years of church membership. Mr. Murden was self-employed by Murden's Well Drilling and Pump Repair but had influenced many in his years of employment, which included Wannamaker Motor Co., co-owner of D & M Automotive, 17 years at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College as a welding instructor and later as a diesel mechanic instructor, and the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Mr. Murden served as pilot with the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Murden was a talented mechanic and self-taught engineer having built such powered machines as a race car, an airplane, a dune buggy, an ice cream maker and a golf ball machine. Mr. Murden was well known for his part in the creation of Aunt Ida's Ice Cream, served at the Orangeburg County Fair with his display of hit and miss tractor engines and antique motors. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, W.T. "Dubby" Murden Jr.; and a sister, Cheryl Murden. Survivors include his wife, Ida Judy Murden of Norway; three daughters, Mrs. Jay (Mandy) Culler of Orangeburg, Mrs. Chris (Tammy) Hunter and Mrs. Hal (Trina) Gibson, both of Norway; four grandchildren, Jayme Culler and Chris, Kendall and Seth Gibson. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Sue Garrick Murden of Orangeburg; older brother, Thomas W. (Mary) Murden of Cordova; his youngest sister, Josie (G.W.) Williams of Springfield. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special pet, Sophie. Friends may call at the home of Hal and Trina Gibson, 339 Judyville Road, Norway, and the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg.
