Description	:	WATERLOO - Robert A. Harbaugh, 94, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 30, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes. He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Orange Township, son of R.V and Lulu Carey Harbaugh. He married Fern Hoffman on Feb. 13, 1954, at Western Avenue Gospel Hall, Waterloo. She died Nov. 8, 2000. Harbaugh, 94, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 30, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes. He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Orange Township, son of R.V and Lulu Carey Harbaugh. He married Fern Hoffman on Feb. 13, 1954, at Western Avenue Gospel Hall, Waterloo. She died Nov. 8, 2000. Mr. Harbaugh graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1935 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He worked at Altstadt and Langlas Bakery for over 40 years, retiring as manager in the shipping department in 1978. He then worked part time until 1994. Survived by: a daughter, Marilyn Lies of Waterloo; three sons, Donald (Marjorie) of Cedar Falls, Douglas of Tucson and David (Julie) of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren Preceded in death by: two brothers, John and Avery. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Robert was saved on March 28, 1935, when he came to the understanding that "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all" Isaiah 53:6 Waterloo Courier, May 1, 2011 Robert's Testimony As a young man Robert was often under conviction of sin desiring salvation. One night riding by the corner of Williston and West 11th St on his bicycle, after a visit with Oliver Smith in his basement workshop, he thought "I must be careful because if I'm hit by a car I'll be in hell." Reaching home, he lay in bed until 5 a.m. searching for peace about this matter. The verse "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." 1 Timothy 1:15, came to his mind. Another verse followed "The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" Isaiah 53:6. Understanding for the first time that all my sins were laid on Jesus he thought "salvation can't be that easy." Not mentioning this fact to anyone until the following week when Oliver asked, "wouldn't he like to know salvation" he answered "I think I would say I am saved." he then explained to Oliver what had happened that March 28, 1935 night.
