PADGETT was born in Morgan County, Missouri, December 8, 1884, a son of Thomas J. Padgett, and grandson of William H. Padgett, the latter of whom was born in North Carolina. On 5 July, 1805, Mr. Padgett was married to Miss Anna E. Kidwell, who was born in Versailles, 06 Mar 1886, a daughter of William A. Kidwell and his wife, Jennie Ratcliff Kidwell. (Dell) Padgett, 61, president of Colonial Poultry Farms, head of a string of hatcheries in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama died at 3 o’clock Sunday morning at the Hand Hospital from pneumonia and complications. He had been a hospital patient since August 23. Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at the Buntz Funeral Home conducted by Rev. M. C. Carstensen, pastor of the First Baptist Church. The body will be taken to Versailles, Mo., for burial at the old family home. Mr. Padgett is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Louise) Olson of Lexington, Neb., and Mrs. H. R. Patterson (Lucille) of Villisca, Ia., and two grandchildren, Lou Ann and Robert Booth Patterson of Villisca. A sister, Mrs. Rosalie Bolton resides at Versailles, Mo. All were called to Shenandoah by Mr. Padgett’s critical illness. Mr. Padgett was born at Versailles, Mo., December 8, 1884 and was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Padgett and Alice Merriott Suda Padgett. He was graduated from Versailles high school in 1900 and was married July 5, 1905 to Miss Anna Ethel Kidwell at Versailles. They have two daughters. Mr. Padgett was with the Southern Colorado Railroad Co., in 1902 and 1903 at Trinidad, Colo., and for the next few years was a well driller at Versailles. In 1907-1908 he owned and operated a restaurant in that Missouri city. In 1908, he returned to the railroad business and was with the Canadian Texas Railroad of Southern Kansas. For two different periods, he was a groceryman in Cass County, Missouri and from 1914 to 1923 he was engineer at the light plant at Versailles. In 1926 he entered the hatchery business at Rich Hill, Mo., and built it up to a chain of nationally known hatcheries including the Colonial in Shenandoah, and large hatcheries at Pleasant Hill, Mo., Cullman, Ala., Sweetwater, Tex., Wichita, Kans., Lamar, Colo., Lexington, Neb., Marion, Ohio, and Bedford and Madison, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Padgett moved to Shenandoah in 1931 and build a fine home here, at 104 West Thomas Avenue. In addition to being president of the Colonial Poultry Farms, Mr. Padgett had other business interests. He was a member of the International Baby Chick Association, the Iowa Poultry Improvement Association, and the Missouri Poultry Improvement Association. He was director of the Booth Farms, Clinton, Mo., and the Superior Hatchery, Windsor, Mo. His lodge affiliations included Masonic lodge of which he was a past master; the Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar, the Shriners in Kansas City and the Elks Lodge in Shenandoah. His hobbies included golf, hunting, and fishing. He was very active in the Country Club and was one of the directors. Mr. Padgett belonged to the Baptist church. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce. The family is prominent socially in Shenandoah and the death is a severe shock, not only to his family but many friends. Out-of-town friends called here by his illness and death include Mr. and Mrs. Eden C. Booth and daughter, Betty Jane, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Terrell of Marion, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Raines of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Mrs. Nora Witten of Kansas City, Wm. Rice Jr., of Sweetwater, Tex., Wallace Gibbs of Cullman, Ala., Jim Bowin and Ernest Dodson of Pleasant Hill, MO.
