Mr. Burgess was born in Union on Feb. 11, 1957, a son of Betty Marcelle Dover Burgess of Union and the late Otis Dean Burgess. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church of Woodruff. Mr. Burgess was born in Union on Feb. 11, 1957, a son of Betty Marcelle Dover Burgess of Union and the late Otis Dean Burgess. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church of Woodruff. Mr. Burgess was a veteran of the 82nd Airborne, U. S. Army, and was employed with Thompson Grading of Woodruff. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, EricaSmith and Lisa Johnson, both of Union; a sister, Betty Burgess Beverly of Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, Dean Burgess and Kenny Burgess, both of Union and Dennis Burgess of West Springs; three stepsons, Jason Burgess, Brandon Burgess and Joseph Burgess, all of the home; a grandson, Thomas LeeSmith of Union, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial was in the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jason Burgess, Brandon Burgess, Joseph Burgess, Shane Burgess, Daniel Burgess and Michael Burgess. The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday night. The family is at the home of his mother, Marcelle Dover Burgess, 135 Old Shetley Place.
