Description	:	About three o’clock this morning R. A. Zimmerman breathed his last. A year ago he had a severe spell of sickness, which developed a serious dropsical condition. For several weeks his life seemed to hang by a thread. Good care and strong will power brought him through and the old pioneer was on his feet again. A year ago he had a severe spell of sickness, which developed a serious dropsical condition. For several weeks his life seemed to hang by a thread. Good care and strong will power brought him through and the old pioneer was on his feet again. But the habit of aggressive activity was to strong. He could not be quiet, but set about building for himself and family a home in Groton. Regardless of frequent warnings, he exposed himself in all kinds of weather until the old malady was back upon him, and the grim reaper could not be driven off again. Mr. Zimmerman was born near Toronto, Canada, January 21, 1838; came to South Dakota in 1880, and was one of the very early settlers in this locality; making his home in Riverside until failing health caused him to leave the farm. He was a carpenter by trade, and the Presbyterian church was among the Groton buildings erected under his supervision. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters. The funeral services will be conducted from the Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Mr. Zimmerman possessed the aggressive traits of character which never surrender, typified in the pioneers who have almost wrought miracles throughout the west. His memory will be cherished with respect, and the most generous sympathy is tendered the bereaved family.
