Description	:	Robert A. Burkett Bob was born in Three Forks, Montana on November 11, 1921. He graduated from Three Forks High School in 1940 and almost immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He graduated from Three Forks High School in 1940 and almost immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. His first post of duty was Moffett Field, near San Jose, California, where he received his boot training. His next duty station was Santa Ana Army Air Base in Santa Ana, California. He then was assigned to the 33rd Troop Carrier Squadron in the Philippines, near Manila. While there, WWII came to an end, and he returned from his foreign service and was discharged on December 14, 1945. Bob then went to into business in Sunburst, Montana, with his father-in-law as a consignee for Texaco. On March 24, 1951, he was called out of Inactive Reserves, and assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Fourth Air Force, Hamilton AFB, California and assigned duties of calling up reservists for the Korean War. On December 15, 1951, he was discharged with duties completed. Later, he became a licensed Customs House Broker at Sweetgrass, Montana. Bob's next post was accepting a position of Special Procedures Officer of IRS in the Boise office, after spending two years in Pocatello and two years in Lewiston as a Revenue Officer. Dad married Leona Halter on January 9, 1947 in Missoula, Montana. They were blessed with two daughters and a son. Michelle, his oldest daughter is a psychologist in the Seattle area. Janelle, a retired teacher, and his son, Mike, a pharmacist, have made Boise their choice for employment and retirement. Leona, his spouse and best friend, was a principal in the Boise School System for about 20 years. She was honored as the Distinguished Citizen of Boise in 1976. After 62 years of marriage, Leona passed away in 2009. Bob dearly missed her. Dad was a man of integrity, always giving to his family and others. His sense of humor and joyful outlook on life was contagious. One never left Bob without hearing a little joke, a kind remark and a twinkle in his eye. Dad passed away at his beloved cabin at Anderson Ranch with his family at his side. He is survived by his three children: Michelle Loesby Fein and husband Terry, Janelle Curtis and husband Dick, and Mike Burkett and wife Kaydeen; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Norma Fellows. His legacy will be forever remembered by his loving family. His family wishes to thank Salmon Creek Retirement Center, Excel Hospice, and all of the many friends Dad collected throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be donated to the South Fork Boise River Senior Center in Bob's name, 950 S. Pine/Featherville Road, Pine, Idaho 83647. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at Bowman Funeral Parlor (10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr., Boise, 83714) at 10 o'clock AM.
