Kriege, 93 a longtime resident of Buffalo, SD died on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman, ND. Memorial Services for Bob will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Community Center. Bob Kriege, 93, was born September 22, 1915, to August and Gladys (Jerred) Kriege on a homestead 15 miles northwest of White River, Mellette County, South Dakota. Bob passed away at Southwest Healthcare, Bowman, ND, on April 5th, 2009. A memorial service will be held at the Community Center in Buffalo, SD at 2:00 pm on Saturday April, 11th 2009 with interment at a later date. Bob attended Texam Country School and two years of high school in White River, SD. Bob moved with his family to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1933 during the Depression. Looking for adventure and work, Bob "rode the boxcars" for several months before he returned to Mellette County and married his sweetheart, Irene Mott, in 1936. In 1937, they went to ranching in Mellette County, where their seven children were born. His wife Irene passed away in 1991. Bob enjoyed hunting and trapping in his spare time and in 1956 took a job with the Fish and Wildlife Service. This brought the family to Buffalo, SD, where Bob spent 26 years as a hunter and trapper of predators. Bob helped start the North American Fur Trappers Association in the 1970s. He flew to Long Beach, CA accompanied by Ralph and Alyce, in 1991 to accept an award from the National Sheep Growers Association for his work on predator control. Bob continued to enjoy his hobbies of fishing, gardening, trapping the pests around town and helping with the Youth Fishing Derby at Gardner Lake. He enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He is survived by 4 children, Donna Ryberg of White River, SD; Vera Russell of Lincoln, NE; Robert (Astrid) Kriege of Bowman, ND; Ralph (Alyce) Kriege of Dickinson, ND; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Wes (Gerry) Kriege of Seneca, OR; Dick (Loretta) Kriege of Sisters, OR; sisters Blanche Wyatt of Sandpoint, ID; Donna Parker of Sisters, OR, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; a sister, Hazel Hammond; two daughters, Midge Lange and Patricia Welch; a son, George; a grandson, Wade Lange; two great grandsons, Jeremy and Jade Reisenauer; Sons-in-law Bill Welch, Art Ryberg, Mervin Russell and Bob Baird. Memorials are established to the Buffalo EMTs and the Southwest Healthcare (hospital) of Bowman. Krebsbach Funeral Home of Bowman is in charge of arrangements.
