| Description | : | He could remember when St. Louis was a small French settlement. When he was a young man in 1833 he moved to Jackson County, Missouri, and while living there he married Miss Eliza J. Watkins. Eight children were born to them, four of whom survived their father -- Jesse G. of Idaho, John H. of Washington, Mary Jane Darby of Missouri, and Thomas J. Austin who he lived with after moving to Davis Creek in 1883, eleven years after the first settlement in Goose Lake Valley. He was known as "Grandpa Austin" there. |
