He departed this life October 4, 2011 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. He lived his life to the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Read More	Bob was born July 18, 1936 near Lohrville, Iowa to parents Virgil W. and Hattie (Kenyon) Tilley. He departed this life October 4, 2011 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. He lived his life to the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Bob attended school in Lohrville until his family moved to a farm outside of Churdan. He graduated from Churdan High School in 1956. After graduation, he began farming with his father on a grain and livestock operation near Churdan. Bob joined the Army Reserve in 1957 for six years. He took his Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and additional training at Fort Carson, Colorado. Then on January 17, 1959 he married Barbara Rice, who would be his wife for 52 years. In 1961-62, during the Berlin Crisis he was called in as "filler" with the 32nd Infantry Division of Wisconsin and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington for a year. The next several years Bob and Barbara continued farming near Churdan until he retired in 2002. However, he continued enjoying farming during the fall season while working at the local grain elevator and doing fall tillage for a farmer for a few more years, as the old saying goes, "once a farmer always a farmer." He enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona, riding his motorcycle, flying his remote control airplanes, and traveling with his camper. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Carolyn (Randy) Dagit of Bentonville, Arkansas, Diane (Brad) Wallace of Jefferson, Iowa, Lori (Rick) Allen of Louisville, Colorado; five grandchildren Kecia, Cindy, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Amber; four great grandchildren; one brother Lawrence (Betty) Tilley of Churdan, Iowa; mother-in-law Gladys Rice of Jefferson, Iowa; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty Sorenson; one grandson Jason Dagit; and father-in-law Glen Rice. Funeral Services for Robert Tilley, 75, of Jefferson, Iowa were at 10:30 am Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Churdan, Iowa. Interment is in the Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan, Iowa. Visitation was after 12:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2011 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. The family was present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
