Funeral services at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Pastor Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Bobby Mohr was born in 1954 and raised in Iowa County, graduating from HLV of Victor in 1972. After graduation Bobby attended Kirkwood Community College for one year and then left to travel America as a drummer in a rock-n-roll band. Playing six nights a week in clubs for 50 weeks a year, for two years. His travels took him to many parts of this country. It included recording sessions in Memphis, Tennessee, on several occasions. After the band, Bobby then moved to Ames and attended school at ISU graduating in 1983. During his time at ISU he was employed by Youth and Shelter Services of Ames. After graduating he moved to Des Moines where he worked at the Wall St. Restaurant and Winston’s Pub. From there he moved back to Iowa County 10 years ago. First to Williamsburg and then to Victor, where he was employed by the Victor State Bank. He had been active as a Civil War reenactor with the 3rd Iowa Light Artillery, Army of the Southwest. These events were held throughout Iowa and served as a method of teaching living history and getting to fire the big guns that a child could only dream of firing. He was honored to have been the drummer for the MacKenzie Highlanders Bag Pipes and Drums of Des Moines. The MacKenzie Highlanders played for numerous fire and police department ceremonies throughout the state of Iowa. His proudest moments were getting to play for the Iowa National Guard troop deployments and homecomings especially during the time of the ramping up of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bobby will be lovingly remembered as a devoted, caring, and compassionate son, brother, co-worker, and friend. A man who loved God, his country, and his family. His friends and family were privileged to be a part of this gentleman’s life. Bobby would ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
