Chico Weekly Chronicle-Record, Saturday, December 15, 1894, pg 3 col 5: Death of a Bright Boy. The family of W.J. Collins was plunged into the deepest grief yesterday morning by the death of Robert B., their son and brother. The boy had been ill for two or three days with some stomach trouble, and while everything was done for him that love and affection and medical skill could suggest, death claimed him at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence of Mr. Collins on Humboldt avenue, the services, which will be held at the house, will be conducted by Rev. Canol of the Fourth Street Methodist Church. “Robby” as he was familiarly known, was 13 years of age on the day of his death. He was a very bright, genial, warm-hearted boy, and made friends of all who knew him, by his good nature and kind, gentle disposition. Those who were familiar with his character regarded him as a lad of much promise, and they invariably had a good word to say for “Robby.” For his years he was well advanced in his studies; he loved his books and endeavored to learn and to advance himself as rapidly and as thoroughly as possible. He was an industrious, upright, honest boy, and was the idol of his parents and the pride of his brothers and sisters. His death just at a time when life was beginning to open out before him and when the future, so far as one could see, contained only promise and brightness for him, is a sad blow to his parents, brothers and sisters, and relations. The Chronicle-Record tenders its sincere condolence to the bereaved family. 13-year-old Robbie Burns Collins was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on December 14, 1894.
